The late poured band is extensively applied in large scale plate-type concrete structures. For shortening construction period, and improving earthquake-resistance, rigidity, integration of structures, the late poured band should be used as less as possible or avoided. Therefore, the study on application of the late poured band in large scale plate-type concrete structures has extraordinary significance on technical and economical efficiency.Firstly, on the precondition that length and width are highly greater than thickness of the large scale plate-type concrete structures, the formula of thermal shrinkage stress is deduced considering the initial boundary stress. The formula broadens the previous formula that is widely used in practice based on the postulation of free boundary. Secondly, the distribution rule of the temperature field and thermal stress field, and the length effect on these fields are simulated using the finite element program ANSYS. A "+" font late poured band FEA model is established to simulate the constraint and boundary condition of the late poured band. Design and curing suggestions are also brought forward according to the temperature and stress distribution of the late poured band. Thirdly, based on the limit deformation concept of the concrete, the setting separation distance of the late poured band considering the initial stress effect is brought forward. The major impact factors of it are also analyzed. Lastly, the late poured band can be conditionally avoided by using compensating shrinkage concrete. The setting separation distance of the late poured band and the expansion-strengthen-zone after using extension agent are brought forward. It can be used to guide the seamless design of large scale plate-type concrete structures.The study results of this paper can be used to guide the utilization of the late poured band in large scale plate-type concrete structures, and provide useful methods in analysis of temperature, stress and the setting separation distance of the late poured band.
