Modeling the grounding net with adequate accuracy is significant forinvestigating EMI problems caused by impedance of grounding net. Generallyspeaking, the so-called "grounding" in a power system often means that the electricdevice/apparatus or subsystems are connected to earth through grounding conductors,so a channel for discharge of large current is available when a severe fault occurs. While the "grounding " in power electronics equipment usually means that a lot ofcomponents are connected to "Reference Grounding Plane". The presence of theconsiderable impedance of the grounding plane is prone to cause some problems, such as the reflection of noise, ground bounce, ring, signal delay and etc. In practice, the frequency band of EMI signals in grounding net is rather wide, thus the groundingproblems are supposed to be solved by partial parameters circuit. However, it's not easy to extract the partial parameters in a complicated 3-Dstructure. A method called PEEC (Partial Element Equivalent Circuit) has found moreand more applications in PCB design and VLSI design in recent years. This paperpresented exclusively how to build the equivalent circuit model for a large sizegrounding net of power electronics equipment based on PEEC. It's well-known thatthe capacitance effect should be taken into account at high frequency, but the key ishow to implement the idea. The paper demonstrated how to figure out those partial parameters and how toestablish the equivalent circuit through PEEC. The high consistency existing betweenthe measurement and the simulation shows that both the circuit model and the partialparameters are accurate and feasible enough within the frequency range under test. Ashield shell has been used while measureing the HF impedance characteristics, and itsinfluence on the partial parameters of the grounding net has been taken intoconsideration. An efficient tool for computing partial parameters was introduced inthe last section of the paper ,and the detailed application of this tool in my researchwork was demonstrated and evaluated with care.
