Based on the actual HVDC project which has been put into operation, the practicalmodels of HVDC control system are set up to simulate and analyze the interaction of AC/DCpower system by PSCAD/EMTDC. Main control functions of HVDC modules are presentedparticularly. Simulation on CIGRE HVDC standard benchmark system shows that the modelshave a dynamic behavior in steady states and transient states. Also the validity of the HVDCmodels is proved. The transmitting capability of AC/DC system is analyzed in theory based on the controlmethods and strategies of HVDC system. The impacts of HVAC which is the network ofreceiving side on HVDC transmission system are studied, and the principles of angle stabilityand voltage stability are set forth deeply. At last, the model is used to an actual operatingAC/DC hybrid system to show the effectiveness of HVDC control strategies which make thehybrid system more reliable and stable by PSASP. Also some noticeable issues and valuableconclusion are summarized in the HVDC planning process.
