Along with rapid development of the technique, customers' demand surges upward day by day. In order to win the competition, the enterprises pay more attention to customer's individuality factor in product design process. At present, more research concentrates to the products' color and function in the area of customized design, but very few in the field of products' form. Therefore, research on key technologies of form customized design (FCD) of mechanical and electrical product has been done by the author under a project funded by the P.R.C. Ministry of Science and Technology. The main contents are as follow:Combined with the characteristics of Industrial Design and Customized Design, The basic techniques of FCD system are researched: The product development technology for Mass Customization, Product Family Industrial Design, and the design method of product combination.Based on the research of customer demand, the product module decomposition and the construction of database, the fast assembling design of product module and so on. The FCD systemic framework is constructed.On the base of analyzing, Solutions to PCD system based on CAXA are proposed. A prototype product customized design was developed with a case of products' three-dimensional digital customized design as example.The paper supplies a new method to carry out the customized design of product form. And the feasibility of our proposed fast customized design was shown preliminarily by experiments. In short, Industrial application of PCD system looks promising but remains to be done.
