Lots of projects have come to their life with the recovery of economy. In these continued projects, some mechanical problems, such as the connection between new and old concrete, make the mechanical circumstance of the concrete frame joints much more confusing, even though they are complicated enough. In this thesis, some simple analytical FEA(finite element analysis) models are developed and utilized to determine the shear strain and seismic capacity of the frame joints strengthened by two different methods, bonding steel and FRP(Fiber Reinforced Plastic). The shear mechanism, failure mode, deformation capacity, bearing capacity and the reliability of the reinforced models and un-reinforced model are gathered to determine the influence produced by the reinforcements. Results of FEAs show that both strengthening methods have significant influences on their failure capacity and seismic capacity. From some mechanical aspects, bonding steel seems some ascendant.Guidelines applied to strengthening joint design and to manufacturing are also introduced in this thesis. |
