The paper is systematic research and practical search of small grain size rock composed rockfill material, which is combined with the construction of Dashuigou concrete faced rockfill dam (CFRD) in Yunnan province.By investigating and analyzing the engineering geological condition of the rock mass of the dam location, we draw a conclusion that the dam located area can be excavated, the rockfill material accordance with the actual specifications is lacking while the equally composed smaller grain size rock material is ample. The small grain size rockfill material is different from the one effloresced, mild part is scarce, the particles are hard. Such a condition can be the potential possibility of material selection.By testing indoor and outdoor, structure computing and locale strain testing of small grain size material, the result indicates such things as follow:The small grain size rock can be used as the CFRD embanking material, except the grain graduation doesn't agree with the specifications of CFRD design. The compacted porosity modulus meet the practical requirements, this also indicate that we can supply the gap between the requirements and the defect by improving the performance of machines and technique of construction, the defect is the character of reduction of strain often caused by the physics of embanked material. As the main factors of stability of CFRD are intensity modulus, elastic modulus and poisson modulus, we could attain a sufficient index of integral strain intensity of compacted materials if advanced equipments and proper techniques are selected. If we want to reduce the distortion of dam in construction and function, reduce the stress and distortion of dam, choosing small grain size embanking material would be feasible, and the dam would be safe. Then I demonstrate the possibility and availability of local material using, convenient construction of the small grain size rock selected as the CFRD material systematically and roundly.By summarizing and analyzing of the locale testing and engineering practical testing, we put forward the techniques fitting for that small grain size rock selected as the rockfill material.The first successful application of the small grain size rock in DASHUIGOU explored a new...
