This design is a research of engineering technology used in decommissioning of a waste storage—a pit waste storage. This design can suit for the retrieving and sorting of solid radioactive waste stored in pit and be aimed at the speciality of the pit, the type and status of the waste.The design of equipment is all along about the special condition—radioactive environment. Because no engineering precedent of radioactive waste retrieving equipment inland and considering no way to buy the same type overseas equipment, in this paper, a whole design scheme suitable for the speciality of the waste pit has been developed, a set of equipment suitable for retrieving all kinds of radioactive solid waste in waste pit has been built after the key devices have been elected, improved and designed.Robot arms which are widely used in jointing and smearing has been adopted when designing the system. The movement, extention, terminal implement, isolation safeguard system, standard interface and monitoring system according to the robot arms have been developed. The main research conclusions with special features are as follows:(1) The movement and way—change of the device, which total weight is 4 tons, are solved, by using a lever in the movement system. The weight of this set of equipment is greatly decreased.(2) The operator can conveniently change the jig using an automatically change jig device in an isolated room. Using this method, the working amount of 'the operator in radioactive environment can be decreased.(3) The experimental run show that the whole set of equipment can get over of the self weight and limited space and realize the movement in the workshop and the relatively flexible movement in or out of the pit; by using the standard interface, the terminal implement can quickly be changed to be suitable for the retrieving all kinds of waste; by using the impactproof technique and force transducer, self—protection can be achieved to avoid more damage to the waste package and radioactive leakage; by designing the procedure of the robot arms, the primary movements can be automatized, this improved the efficiency and safety reliability of the system.
