With the ever-increasing scale of power system, the stability of system more and more threatens the safety of the grid, thus how to realize on-line supervision of complex grid should be paid special attention. This paper realizes the supervision of power system through angle stability and voltage stability. The research includes:1. Catering to power system with WAMS, the practical calculation of a generator's critical power is explored. Adopting the simple model, the steady-state stability margin can be gained in a short time based on the information of WAMS. So it is available to monitor the system by angle stability.2. A method of continuous power flow which can get the system's critical voltage and maximum power is presented. And various influence on calculation process and results exerted by critical parts of the method is studied. Finally, an efficient method for realizing the conversion of node mode is also presented.3. Based on the grid of Fujian, the software of VSM(Voltage Stability Monitoring) is developed, which has already been applied in Fujian provincial power system.
