With the development of high-rise building, it's more and more popular that concrete-filled steel tubular(CFST) is used. The steel tube concrete structure can make good use of two materials of steel tube and concrete and has other merits as high strength light weight, good performance of earthquake resistance. The design of joints is the key that CFST is applied in high-risebuilding. While for the time being the research on joints for high strength concrete-filled steel tubar column-Variable width reinforced concrete beam is preliminary. Based on nonlinear elasto-plastic theory and finite element method analyse, mechanical performance for the joints was studied.Based on theory analyse, the three-dimensional finite elemental numerical calculation was carried out on joints for high strength concrete filled steel tubar column- Variable width reinforced concrete beam, the segregate calculational model of rebar steel tube and concrete was adapted. . The result show stress and stain distributed figures of all components, stress intensified field, the load transfer machanisn and ultimate damage pattern. The Simple calculated method was given and reasonable conclusion was presented. The reseach proves the design requirements of "the joint is stronger than the frame member" . The subject of investigation in the paper could make up the deficiency of the reseach on joints for high strength concrete-filled steel tubar column- Variable width reinforced concrete beam and supported the reference for researchers and designers in the field.
