With the development of the cause of socialism modernization in our country, the demand for electricity is increasing greatly in all kinds of departments of the national economy. So more and more power plants are put into use in the operation of power system and the power system is enlarged continuously. Under the circumstances, implementing scientific management, carrying out economic and reasonable operation dispatch, improving the level of operation management constantly and exerting the benefit of the operation fully are significant for national economy, social development and the living standard. In recent 40 years, much progress has been made in the optimization technique. This is one of the most important advancements in water resources. Reservoir optimal dispatch can bring great economic benefit without investing extra fund. Dynamic program is one of the most efficient methods and it is often used to solve the problems existed in reservoir' s optimal operation.This article firstly introduced the possibility of the research and main accomplishment of power plant' s long-term optimal operation and the usual method. Aiming to the practice of the Maojiacun reservoir, according to the optimal principle of dynamic programming, firstly constructed the model of reservoir operation which objective function was to pursue the generation power flow of each stage. Besides, analyzed the sample of hydrology data and made use of it to set up stochastic model, then carried through the long-term optimal dispatching account and summarized the result finally.Based on the theory analysis, the author developed a program whichcan well described Maojiacun reservoir' s long-term optimal dispatching model by using Visual Basic 6.0. It has friendly user interface and powerful capability of creating graph. The interface between user and computer can be improved greatly. This program also can solve optimal operation and gains satisfactory result, which can be used as the guidance of the operation.
