The brick masonry structure is widely used in the buildings of our country. The capability of seismic resistance is poor and it is subjected to severe damage in passed earthquake. In this paper, a method for calculating seismic vulnerability matrix of brick masonry structure is put forward. The main content is as follows: 1. Investigative background and purpose as well as meanings are introduced in this paper, and the study actualities about seismic vulnerability are summarized. 2. The earthquake ground motion model is simulated as nonstationary stochastic process model that is used as equivalent stationary stochastic process. Its power spectral model is the twice-filtered white noise model. Moreover, the relation between the power spectral intensity and the mean value of maximum ground acceleration is set up. 3. The model of brick masonry structure is simulated as shear model that is equivalently linearized. The covariance matrix equation is deduced, and the statistics of stochastic response and sensitive coefficient are given. The structure's damage criterion is used double parameters damage criterion. By assuming that the distribution of the earthquake effect and that of the structural resistant force are Gumbel â… and lognormal respectively, uncertainties in parameters and error of model as well as randomness of loading are considered, the structural vulnerability matrix is established. 4. Program to resolve the special difficult covariance matrix equation is compiled, and many programs are also compiled to calculate the response statistics and seismic vulnerability matrix at last. 5. Finally, the two brick buildings of three-story and four-story are selected as application examples, By means of above mentioned method, The seismic vulnerability of two constructions are calculated, the results basically accord with practice. It is shown that the method of this paper is feasible.
