Masonry construction is a main style of structure for living building in our country. As the economic development of our country and profound research on masonry construction, the masonry construction as an old structural style must generate a new luster.The main content in this article includes four aspects. Firstly, a contrast on the economic efficiency is done among the three structural styles applied in multiplex civil buildings: masonry construction, which is the main structural style in the multiplex civil buildings field, concrete frame construction and steel construction. Moreover, in allusion to the conditions in China, characteristics and developmental directions in the future are discussed respectively when the three structural styles are applied in the multiplex civil buildings.Secondly, on the basis of experiments, brick column which is under axial pressure is researched. The brick column is one of the main components in the masonry construction. The design, process and main results of experiments are introduced in this article. Through the reorganization of the data obtained in the experiments, a complete stress-strain curved line is acquired when brick column is compressed in the axial direction. At the same time, the failure mechanism of brick column is discussed on the basis of its failure criterion.Thirdly, the stress-strain relation is discussed when the masonry construction is in the axial compression state. Primarily, several main kinds of constitutive relationship when the masonry construction is compressed are introduced and the characteristics of their curved line are introduced too. Furthermore, based on other constitutive relationship of masonry, a constitutive relationship model is put forward on the basis of experiment data analysis. Compared the constitutive relationship in this article with others, there is more advantages in this articles model. At last, we discuss some failure criterion of masonry structure.Finally, finite element method is adopted on the basis of theoretical analysis in this article. And the software ANSYS is adopted to simulate the experiments mentioned in this article. Random parameter method is introduced; we put forward a way which can combine the random parameter method and finite element method.
