Along with the boost of the western construction and municipal construction, the retaining wall in buildings, highways and urban constructions was attached importance. Block retaining structure has some outstanding features so as to apply widely in engineering, such as shop fabricated, standardization produce, quick construction and safety so on. Thus the research on stress trait, design calculation theory and construction principal point of block retaining structure has certain significance in theory and practical engineering.A kind of H-block is put forward according to the block stress trait and interconnection, which is prefabricated and easy laying. And the composition of this H-block retaining structure is also classed systematically. Then based on the characteristic and bearing mechanism of block retaining wall, some fundamental assumptions and computing method are held up, aimed at different computing methods of soil pressure. In order to analyze stress trait and service behavior of block retaining wall structure, a model experiment of H-block retaining wall was designed and accomplished. The failure mode of this retaining wall was attained by means of recording the soil pressure of rear wall, top displacement of wall, strain of cross section and base pressure, through simulating the overall process of construction. Based on this test data, the distribution regularities of soil pressure in the rear wall, the transfer regularities of soil pressure and self load in block and block in critical strain condition are analyzed. In order to verify the reliability of analytic method and test result, a model of this retaining wall was built by Marc finite element program to deeply find out stress trait of blocks. The computing result computed by Marc accords with the actual measurement and may gain the load transfer regularities of blocks. The checking methods of stability, wall intensity and block in critical state are brought forward based on the experiment and theory analysis. Thereby the design consideration and construction precautions of H-block retaining wall are set forward and applied in practical engineering of retaining structure in one city.
