High vertical distance often happens in pipe conveyance because of different physiognomy. The pipe must stand the wide range of pressure changes and high total head .So a certain energy dissipator needs to design in the transportation from pipe flow to open channel flow. Circular stilling wells are ideally suited for dissipation of high energy pipe flow.Based on physical model experiment, hydraulic design of circular stilling wells is made in this paper. Then the flow regime in the wells is studied.Firstly, the energy dissipation engineerings are systematically concluded. Then circular stilling well hydraulic model is made. The paper presents guidelines to aid the designers in determining optimum well geometry for their specific needs. General design criteria have been established to determine well size based on design discharge, Q, and diameter of the standard sleeve valve, D. Finally the paper also studies the current flow in circular stilling wells by using numberical algorithm. An ASM turbulence model is developed ,and the boundary conditions are established.
