Along with the continuous development of power system network and the continuous enhancement of voltage grade, the request is enhanced correspondingly to the fault phase selector. By the analysis with power frequency phase-current-difference selector and sequential current phase comparison selector, a new fault phase selecting principle aimed to single and parallel transmission lines is put forward in this paper. The selector employed the correlation analysis as the basic method. It has fast selecting speed and enough selecting margin for any fault type. It also has excellent performance under high resistance condition. The selector can work correctly not only the simple fault but also the specific fault happen on the transmission line. If any fault occurs on the parallel transmission lines, it still has excellent sensitivity. EMTP simulation results for a 500kV transmission line have verified the effectiveness of the principle put forward by this paper.
