Lightning Mapper Sensor(LMS) is an optical detect instrument on the FY-4 platform designed to acquire and investigate lightning around China and the nearby regions. The goal to increase lightning signal and detect the lightning by combination of four means. One of them is frame-frame-background-wipe-off. RTEP is a real-time digital signal process system to accomplish this purpose. Processing 12bit signals of 512×512 pixels, detecting lightning signals and encoding lightning signals and background signals within 2ms by TREP.This paper focuses on the necessity, theory of realization and DSP+FPGA design of RTEP.Firstly it discuss characteristic of lightning, characteristic of 512×512 CCD output signal and the request of deal with data, and draws a conclution that RTEP is an absolutely necessary part of LMS. Secondly it gives the theory of realization of RTEP. It analyzes the feasibility of DSP+FPGA scenario.This paper stresses on the realization of DSP+FPGA scenario and the design in detail. Realizing RTEP with DSP+FPGA utilizes high speed data R/W and processing ability of FPGA to check lightning signals and utilizes high speed data processing ability of DSP to encode lightning signals and background signals. Utilizing FPGA to check lightning signals is real time digital signal process.It is an digital filter. Encoding in appropriate way can decrease data transmit speed.
