The Blended-Wing-Body (BWB) is a novel and unique aircraft which is different from modern, conventional transonic transports. It is expected to offer remarkable performance advantages and significantly improve the economic efficiency of future air-transports. These years, various teams in Europe and the US have been engaged in the research on the future BWB civil transports. The main research was done on the preliminary aerodynamic design of a BWB civil transport in this paper. Firstly, the general design philosophy was presented, according to the assumed design requirement of certain BWB civil transport, an initial backward-swept wing tailless configuration, of which blended surface was generated in virtue of CAD software PRO/E, was designed, its flow field under design and off-design condition was simulated using computing software later. Several shortcomings and improving measures were put forward according to the discussion about the result. Based on the measures and the analysis about the influence of configure parameters to the aerodynamic characteristics of the forward-swept wing tailless configuration, an improved forward-swept wing tailless configuration was presented. The result of numerical calculation indicated that the improved configuration is of significant performance advantage, such as higher maximum lift coefficient, higher ratio of lift to drag, higher drag-rise Mach Number, lower drag and lower pitch-down moment, over the initial one.
