As the hydraulic turbine unit capacity is increasing fast and the hydropower generating units'capacity account for a more and more proportion in electric power system, an important problem, that how to increase the reliability and stability of hydroelectric units operation, greatly intrigues power industry people.Cavitation is one of the most common faults of hydropower units, and serious cavitation will endanger units'operation directly. So, it. is necessary to carry on online cavitation monitoring system. This paper great stress on how to configure a online cavitation monitoring system software based on virtual instrument for hydropower units, and the main research work consists of three parts as following: 1.Designing a spectral analysis module by digital signal processing principle and method. This instrument can analyze the power spectrum for vibration acceleration signal which include cavitation signal, and can add the intensity of relatively cavitation.2.Designing a cavitation display module by fuzzy control technique. This instrument can display whether the units have cavitation or not by mankind language.3.Configuring an online cavitation monitoring system by spectral analysis and cavitation display module, and examining the system by simulating signal.Simulation result proves, this software system can meet the online cavitation monitoring for hydropower generating units.
