Supported by the Natural Science Foundation of Hunan Province ( Grant No. 00JJY2076), the static behavior and the simplified calculation method of staggered truss system ( STS ) are studied in this paper, the main research works are concluded as follows:First of all, the spatial working behavior, especial the working mechanism of the floors in STS are analyzed by FEA, and the possibility of the transformation from spatial model to plane model of STS is also discussed by numerical simulation.Secondly, based on the analysis of the characteristic of STS under the vertical load, the simplified model is set up, and the moment distribution method for structure without shear force is proposed in this thesis. Moreover, a calculation example of STS with Vierendeel truss is analyzed.Thirdly, with the assumption that the drift stiffness of truss is continual along the height of structure, the equilibrium differential equation is established for STS under horizontal load, and the formula for inner force and drift are presented.Finally, according to the simplified calculation model and the analysis theoretically, the manual calculation method is provided, which are helpful to engineers to calculate the STS. The calculation examples show that the results obtained by the method developed in this paper agree with the results by FEA very well. The method provided in this paper is clear in physical conception, and easy to use, also has the advantage of less amount computation.
