Most cities of Xinjiang are located in arid area, the development of these cities was limited by water resources. With the development of city , water resources is becoming more and more shorten,at the same time the problem of shortage of water resulted by pollution is becoming more and more seriously. The cities of Xinjiang can be divided into two kinds, the old cities and the rising industrial cities. The old cities have a long history, the rising industrial cities are based on the new energy sources and chemical industry in harsh desert. So it is important to protect and make good use of water resources of Xinjiang. This paper pick up two cities(Urumqi and Karamay) to study the protect of Xinjiang water resources in important city.Based on the water resources of Urumqi programming and the water resources of Karamay programming, with the water resources of China programming's standard to appraise water resources of study area. With PWQTrend software of the seasonal Kendall test I analysed the variation trend of surface water and the source of pollutant. I have developed a model of the water quality trend analysis which depend on the gray forecast test. It can be used to analyse the variation trend of water quality of ground water that short of datas. Use the GIS to analyse the range of area-source pollution. Study the pollutant delivery rule and the reason of the variation trend by environmental geology theory. The result indicated that the old cities have serious pollution of water environment, the rising industrial cities haven't gravet pollution of water environment. Those tow kinds cities are all facing the area-source pollution. At last, Based on this thesis's studay, the paper analysed the way of water resources development of Xinjiang and sum up two prospects for the development.
