To make full use of natural ventilation to remove the heat and the contamination in the potroom, a novel construction form is considered abroad—the internal perforated wall is located on the end of the electrolysis slot, respectively. The properties of radiation, convection and local resistance of perforated wall in the potroom can also be used in other industrial hot room similarly, which affords the designers princinples. The equations of the radiation heat transferred between the perforated wall and the other surfaces are secured using Light Factor Method. PHOENICS, a CFD package, together with the low-Re k-e model corrected by Lam-Brehmost and the standard k-e model, is used to calculate convective heat transfer of the perforated brick wall. The local resistance coefficient of the perforated wall and the fixed fins are determined as well as the resistance of single—blind outlet, which is the substitution of the perforated wall if needed. The resistance loss of the tubes of the natural ventilation when the resistances of all the possible air inlets are considered is studied, which provides the software for designing natural ventilation of the potroom with fundamentals.
