The project and method of the existing rigid frame arch bridge reinforced by changing arch structural system into arch and cable system is presented. Based on the typical bridge, the analysis of the static behavior of the bridge before and after strengthening are preformed. The theory of elastically supported continuous beam method is brought forward to transfer spatial structure into plane structure. At the same time, spatial finite element model is created for contrast and the relative loading experimental results are compared with the calculated values. The results show that the mid-span bending moment and deflection of the reinforced bridge obviously are reduced and the capacity of carrying load are greatly improved. It is proved that the effective measure and method to reinforce the existing rigid frame arch bridges built early and enhance its capacity of carrying load. It has the definite theoretical significance and engineering practical value.
