Line losses calculation and reactive optimal control are important components of Distribution Automation System (DMS). In the situation of electric power general adoption of the market principle, reduction line loss is an important factor that electric power operates economic, and reactive optimal control is an efficient method to solve high line loss and low voltage problem in distribution network, In this paper, depth research has been done about these problems by studying coherent knowledge and combination real situation in our country.In this paper, traditional methods and some new theories to calculation line losses have been compared according to actual situation of 10kV distribution network firstly. A new method named energy meter method based on interval algorithm is adopted, In this method, interval mathematics theory is used to calculate line losses. Because the factors will effect the accurate have considered, the result is not a number but a reasonable interval numbers. These interval numbers will give operators more appropriate range to adopt effective measures to reduce line losses. Using this method to ShenHe Power Supply Bureau ShenYang, This method has been proved actual, effective and accurate.Network topology is base to calculate substitution resistance and power flow. In this paper, list inquiry of data structure is used. This inquiry method is very simply, if input head and end numbers of a line, the sequence of all nodes will be arranged. Depending on the required reactive optimal control ask for power flow, this inquiry method is used in alternate iterating algorithm to calculate flow. By this method, there is not special need to deal numbering nodes of line, and there is not effect to program if add or reduce number of nodes. This algorithm has advantage of fast computation speed, high accuracy convergence and the iterating times will not increase obviously with the number of nodes add. This method is suitable for reactive optimal control.Based on above content, considering economic, a mathematics model of reactive optimal control which object function is min line losses is formed. Using data of daily load prediction, theory analysis and calculate of reactive optimal control have been tried.
