This paper does research on multiple-frequency IGBT high frequency induction heating power supply. In the first place, basic knowledge of induction heating and development of power devices are introduced. Then, the advantages and disadvantages of the two common topologies (series resonance and parallel resonance) are compared, and their switching processes are also analyzed. After this several control strategies (PFM, PWM PDM, etc.) are discussed in detail, the conclusions which are made by discussion are available to the research of soft-switching techniques. In the second place, this paper presents the operation principles of multiple-frequency circuits and analyzes the electrical variants operated in different modes, which is fulfilled by simulations and theoretic calculations. A conclusion is also drawn: the optimum method of power modulation is to make the circuit work under discontinuous mode. This paper also discusses how to select the appropriate circuit parameters according to short-circuit current margin. The impact of compensation capacitors on output power is also introduced simply, as well as the design of inductor. Finally, the implementation of multiple-frequency circuit control strategies is discussed. The experimental results demonstrate that the strategies hold a very useful effect to the circuit.
