The new automotive gauge, mostly based on field-bus communication protocol and used micro-motor's driver control system, is developing with digital , intelligence and network character step by step.The paper introduces the development of automotive gauge, accomplished the theory study of the stepper motor's driver system used in the new automotive gauge and automotive gauge system based on filed-bus communication protocol. Moreover, a stepper motor's driver control platform based on GDIC (Gauge Driver Integrated Circuit) was finished and an automotive gauge communication system based on CAN bus was constituted.In the stepper motor's driver control platform system, the MC33991 is chosen to drive the stepper motor used in the automotive gauge. The MCU transfers the data and command from and to the GDIC with SPI communication protocol. By checking the EMF with ∑ - △ ADC method, the GDIC can recognize the rotor position of full step. The control platform, which can be used to drive the gauge directly and to analyze and check the quality of the stepper motor, is proved to be stable and reliable.With high transferring bit rate and strong anti-interference of electro-magnetic characters, CAN bus is a multi-master serial communication bus and widely used in the automotive instrumentation communication system. The paper introduces the theory about gauge communication system based on CAN bus and describes the hardware design and software design in detail.
