With the development of reusable launch vehicles, thermal protection system has been oriented by the idea of incorporate design which involves thermal protection - structure - thrust system. At the same time, the weight proportion of thermal protection system has been reduced, but the working temperature of thermal protection system has been increased. That is to say, the thermal protection structure should be developed ceaselessly. Thus, the sandwich structure is an ideal choice for the advantage that it is designable and multifunctional. However, at present, the categories of sandwich structure are still to be increased, and the technology is still to be developed. So the designable folded Structure is a potential choice in thermal protection for its special structure. In this research, the basal thermodynamic characteristics of folded structure were discussed by experiments and analysis. The calculations in this thesis were done by ANSYS to obtain effective thermal conductivities of sandwich panel with different folded core. Sixteen specimens of sandwich panel were designed for the experiments to verify the calculated results. The main thermodynamic characteristics which vary with the structure parameters of folded cores were got in normal temperature. The panels with different folded cores can have the same effective thermal conductivity, thus the right folded structure can be chosen according to the application.
