The generation of Double-Arc Helical gears(W-N), the geometric characterof tooth surface, the meshing characteristic of tooth surface, the bend stress andcontact stress of W-N in driving are studied in this paper. The software isdeveloped for the stress analysis of W-N. In the research on the generation of W-N, the equations of W-N tooth, contacting lines on the tooth in processing, contacting lines and meshing lines inthe meshing, transversal tooth is derived. The meshing characteristics arediscussed. The bending stress of W-N is analyzed by the use of Finite ElementMethod (FEA), from which it can be obtained how the tooth shape technicalangle, pressure angle and the whole height of the gear influence the bend stress. The contacting stress of W-N is calculated by FEA,from which it can beobtained how the nominal pressure angle, spiral angle and the whole height ofthe gear influence the contact stress. Based on the parametric method, aparametric FEA modeling and post process software was developed by usingANSYS Parametric Design Language (APDL) and Visual Basic Language.
