In order to find the rule of construction process in the navigation lock - head structure which has been set up two construction joints in the bottom on the soil base. The paper considers the structure and the soil base as a system. In the thesis, Duncan -chang' s E - μ. model and the Biot consolidation theory are applied to simulate the actual construction conditions and sequences, as well as the Desai thin - layer elements employed to represent the soil - structure interaction, analyzing the consturction process of the second NanTong Navigation Lock - Head with non - liner incremental finite element methods, drawing some conclusions from calculation and information from site measurement. The results have proved the above methods effective which are able to solve some questions which had to face before. It would be helpful for the lock - head structure' s design and its construction.
