Dalian International Trade Center, 339m in height, will be one of the highest tall buildings in China and the first one totally designed by architects and researchers of our country. The calculated results show the displacement and acceleration on the top of the building caused from strong wind are very close to the limit of comfortableness. To reduce the displacement and enhance the comfortableness of the building, tuned liquid damper (TLD) that is simple, convenient and cheap, is used to control wind-induced vibration of the building and improve its utility. Therefore, the thesis develops following investigation:First, the simplified model of the structure was established. It can avoid the long calculated time and save the space of hard disk, so it replaces the finite element model. By analyzing dynamical characteristics of the simplified model, it proves that the replacement is reasonable and advances work efficiency.Second, the wind load of the building is simulated by Davenport wind model according to the engineering conditions .To save calculated time, fast Fourier transform (FFT) is introduced for the simulation. The actual samples of wind speed were obtained at the position of the building. The frequency spectrum of simulated wind load was compared with the one of measured, which verified the correctness of the simulated wind load.Third, There is a lot of water tanks on the top of the building for daily use, so it can be designed to be shallow or deep water tank and used as tuned liquid damper (TLD) to reduce structural response of displacement and acceleration. Two projects are carried out depend on deep theory and shallow wave theory respectively and can be selected by designer according to the actual conditions. However, the responses of main structure with attached TLD are complicated due to the nonlinearity of liquid motion in TLD and the simplified TLD model remains for a future study. Furthermore, the design method and process in the thesis can provide the reference for the wind-induced vibration control of similar tall buildings by TLD.
