A lot of natural sceneries and materials such as changeable clouds, grandiose mountains, devious coastline, incessantly forficate branches, wood-texture and marbles with various patterns are often used in packaging design to increase the reality and space effect of the graphics designed. However, the shapes of these natural sceneries seem to be irregular. It will be angular and unreal in vision if Euclid geometry is adopted to fulfill their modeling. Therefore, a kind of efficient build-function must be looked for to form the geometry data that can describe these sceneries according to some parameters that represent their geometry characters. Fractal geometry is proposed in this paper to protract natural scenery graphics based on the characters of packaging decoration. Firstly, the geometry models of the objects simulated are built by the fractal geometry theory according to their different characteristics. Secondly, the corresponding algorithms are designed to gain the geometry data of these objects according to fractal interpolation algorithm theory so as to protract their planar graphics. Finally, in order to gain better visual effect, graphics disposal and render functions of OpenGL are used to deal with the aspects of their color, illumination and texture. Consequently, three-dimensional natural scenery simulation graphics with reality sense are obtained to satisfy the needs of packaging designers.
