With the expansion of electrical power system, transient stability assessment (TSA) is becoming more and more important. So the requirement of online stability analysis and control in real-time character is becoming higher and higher. But the existing relevant question and defect in the existed analytical methods have limited their applications in the online TSA. Through analysing , TSA can be transformed to classification which is an important function in data mining , so decision tree method in data mining is used to predict transient stability of a power system.Data Mining (DM) aims at analyzing massive amounts of data and extracting meaningful and comprehensible patterns, called knowledge. In recent years, DM has got domestic and international widespread concern and has been becoming most hot researching realm in the field of information systems and computer science. In the environment of C++ Builder 6.0 and the Chinese version of Window XP operating system, a transient stability assessment system isdeveloped by using decision tree method based on data mining. The results of the computer simulation of a 3-machine-9-bus system show that the system makes judgment progress more rapidly more correctly and more reliably. The good effect is acquired in practical application.
