With the development of ground-improvement technology, composite ground has been used popularly in civil engineering. But till now, the theory of calculating the composite ground settlement has still not been mature. The factors affecting the additional stress and the side friction of the composite ground were studied numerically in this paper.Firstly, a formula was forwarded to calculate the composite modulus of the improved ground respectively under confined compression and unconfined compression, considering the side effect of construction. Then, the factors affecting the additional stress and the side friction of the composite ground as a whole were studied by ANSYS, a commercial FEM software, such as the modulus, the scope under the load and the ratio between height and width of the composite ground. Lastly, basing on these analyses, the principle is proposed concerning the additional stress and the side friction of the composite ground.
