In china, main members of most traditional buildings were made of wood. Repair and strengthening of structures is required for the wood members damaged due to various reasons. Many researchers pay their much attention on studying the structural behavior of undamaged or plain wood beams reinforced by CFRP sheets. But, in practice, most wood beams that need be repaired have already been damaged or degraded. So, it is necessary to study the structural performances of damaged wood beams reinforced by CFRP sheets. An experimental program was undertaken to study the flexural properties of pre-damaged wood beams strengthened by carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) sheets. Eighteen beams were tested to failure using three different reinforcement ratios and three undamaged beams as control beams. And a method to simulate the local damage of beams was proposed. The result of experiment indicates that the CFRP does contribute an excellent effect to the increasing of the flexural properties of reinforced wood beams, and the proposed simulating method is appropriate. Based on experimental study, a method to predict the flexural capacity of reinforced wood beams was proposed. After comparing experimental results and calculated results, we can see that the proposed method is available.
