Constructional Expressing Of Steel Architecture

Steel-structure building dominates the various forms of projects in developed countries nowadays, whereas it is still on its beginning stage of development in China. We surely can benefit great from the successful experience of excellent overseas works as our reference.Architecture exists as the result of construction while construction is the materialization of architect's thinking. This thesis initiates the research on steel architecture from the perspective of architectural expressing, and then probes the logic relation between material and form, which leads to contemplation on the architectural forms based on the particular material features of steel. After briefly tracing back the development history of steel architecture the essay carries on the study from three aspects of material expressing, structural expressing and constructional expressing. Meanwhile the essay analyzes the technical and aesthetic notion involved in steel architecture, several representative contemporary projects selected, and then tries to search for the design methods to develop the expressing ability of steel architecture with analysis on the basic points of steel architecture design.
