Many achievements have made in the research and application of steel structure since almost one hundred years ago. Steel structure has been widely used in the residential building abroad for many years, but it just begins to be adopted in the residential building domestic since recent years. Technically, steel residential building system must accord with the characteristics of residential building and the development of residential industrialization. There are still many problems remain to be solved in these aspects, such as behavior research on the lateral resistant of steel frame and connection etc.Some connections, such as I beam - H column connection, H beam- H column connection have been widely analyzed by many researchers, while the character of square cold-forming steel column -H beam connection has been seldom researched. There is great difference for stiffness in the two main axial directions of H-type steel section, and it exists weak axis, so it is not economic to be made of the column. Considering the modulus of elasticity of square cold-forming steel column section. The stiffness are same in the two main axial directions of square steel column which is fit for frame column because the steel which is used will be much saving. This article will provide the study to the square cold -forming steel column and H-type steel beam connections:1 .The character and behavior of a few kinds of square cold-forming steel column and H-beam connections have been analyzed. The design methods of these connections have been discussed.2.Based on the elastic-plastic mechanics, by establishing the nonlinear analytical model of square cold-forming steel column and H beam connection with nonlinear finite element method software ANSYS, the behavior of beam-column connectionsin the single static load was stimulated and analyzed.3.The behavior and the stress distributing situation of a few kinds of connections with external stiffeners was compared, considering the main influencing factors, the relative dimensions of beams and columns, the thickness of column cliff and the length of stiffeners in the connection region.4.The semi-rigid connections was analyzed with FEA software, obtaining the P- A curve of all specimens and the stress distributing situation of specimens when they were in the plastic transmutation. In accordance with the calculation consequence, the influence of the end slab s thickness to the connection capacity to out-extended end slab and the top and seat angle steel connection.At last, based on the work of this paper, some problems about this research worth to be studied afterward are put forward.
