ADCP (Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler) is a new technique which is based on the principle of radar and sonar systems, and is used to measure velocity profiles across a river and compute the discharge rate. RSIOOADCP system is an implementation of ADCP. It plays a very important role in flood hazard forecasting, water resource management and water quality control, reservoir operation, nation water infrastructure, water resource protection and so on. The research in this paper is put the emphases on the design of RSIOOADCP system and its key techniques. The main research and results are as follows:(1) The operating principle and composition of the RSIOOADCP system. The theories and problems involved in RSIOOADCP system are demonstrated in detail, including the phenomenon of ambiguity, ambiguity resolution, the principles of velocity measurement and range measurement and digital signal processing.(2) Hardware implementation of RSIOOADCP system. Hardware realization approaches of signal controller, signal transmitter and receiver and digital signal processor are developed.(3)The hardware and software realization of digital down frequency converter and its' performance are discussed(4) Software achievement of FFT is presented.
