The urban systems of flying junctions and viaducts are the lifeline engineering, in which the curved girder bridge is becoming more and more popular, because of its less limitation by terrain and route, economization of building capital, smoothing shape, in good coordination with the circumstance. With the more attention was paid to the disaster prevention, and disaster diminish of the lifeline engineering, the aseismatic problem of the curved girder bridge was be attached more importance to. But because of its sophisticated dynamic characteristics, and coupling characteristic of longitudinal earthquake response and transversal counterpart, it was researched rarely in the area of theoretical studies, so more research is needed.The status in quo of the dynamic characteristics and earthquake response was reviewed in this paper. Refer to related literature, the earthquake fortification level and the seismic checking computation method of curved girder bridge were discussed in this paper, the hotspots in this area were posed, then the solution and the way to research were gave.Different finite models of the supper structure, including curved girder, and sub-structure such as piers and the joints element, nonlinear joints element were discussed and compared with each other. Then some advices in acquiring simplify models and reasonable modeling parameters in the dynamic analysis by large- scale finite element program were gave.After that, some effects on dynamic characteristics of curved girder bridge caused by span, curvature radius, condition of support, stiffness of rubber bearings, the ratio of width and span were compared, through doing spatial dynamic analysis of a three-span curved girder bridge and its derivate structures. Then some useful conclusions for the conceptual earthquake-resistant design, detail design and modal analysis method were made. During this time, the parameterized program used for dynamic analysis of curvedgirder bridge were made.During the elastic analysis of time history earthquake response, different earthquake responses along different directions excited by earthquake exicitations were compared. It also take the pile — soil — structure effects and rare—structure effects and the LRB support effects into account. Then during the elastic and plastic analysis of time history earthquake response, the material nonlinearity of confined concrete and nonlinear pounding were considered, and the seismic response were compared with which were not considered.The modal mass and modal mass ratio of curved girder bridge with different curvature radius were computed, and the requisite modes and the mode combination method are posed when the spectrum methods are used. The whole results were expected to be the beneficial reference for the seismic checking computation method of the curved girder bridge even the whole urban system of flying junctions and viaducts.
