Investigation Of Humanizatied Jail Architectural Space

Being the country machine, jails almost have the same history as the countries. Jail witnesses the civilization steps, and also the development of regime of human beings. As a kind of special construction, more attentions have been paid to the matters, such as safety and how to punish and reform culprits. But some basic live needs and convenient establishments for culprits in jail are neglected. Under background of development in civilization and enough substance supply, more and more faults are arising in the old jail space structure. All of those show that the old space structure of jail can not meet the requirements of reforming culprits.With the development of human beings' civilization, the ways of punishment towards the culprits have changed greatly in past thousands of years. The brutal physical punishment has changed to the free-limited punishment. The punishment has improved more civilized. Jail, as a place to enclose culprits simply at first, has became a carrier on it to carry out most punishments. Today, the major functions of jail lie in how to rebuild and reform culprits by punishment.The thinking of humanization design is advocated in architecture and has carried through the all the procedure of architecture. So, jail's humanization, standardization should also be taken into account during the design procedure. Under the condition of meeting safety, rules of administration or laws, more attention should be paid to the characteristic of action and mind of culprits during design, so the architectural space can be designed ideally to facilitate culprits to receive reform, to learn techniques. Also, that will be helpful for culprits to establish the target and ideal of life.As a completely new issue in architecture, starting out from special background and factors influencing on the architectural space of jail, the author propose the thinking of humanization construction based on considering the contents of jail construction. After field survey and questionnaire, some primary researches about the issue were made. Based on above researches, we strive to find out problems about theissue and establish a framework for jail's humanization construction space that meets the requirements of reforming culprits in our country, as well as, some constructive suggestions about the jail's humanization architectural design and building mode are proposed.
