The control circuit of the general inverter based on the Intel 80C196MC was designed in this paper. Aiming at function of the present general inverter and combining with the hardware design, the practicable program was compiled to realize the basic, assistant and special function of the general inverter. A prototype was made and tested, and the result indicated that the circuit is credible and the program run well. Also, the effect of the dead time to the inverter system was lucubrated, and two practicable schemes of the dead time compensation mechanism was analyzed. The experiment was carried out. Through the comparison and the analysis, the best way to compensate the dead time was given .
