Now the construction structure is required to have longer span> higher attitude and have the ability to carry over-loading, and column will burden more load. Investigation of the earthquake shows that the design of the columns that support the structure is the key to prevent collapse in the earthquake. The columns, that support the building with high attitude and long span, are required to not only have the high ability to carry load, but also possess good ductility to avoid collapse in the earthquake.The steel tubular columns filled with steel-reinforced high-strength concrete (the new composite column at another time), will be studied in this text. Based on the unified theory of composite structure and the experiments of the short composite column under axial compression, load-carrying capacity and composite stiffness of the new composite column will be investigated.The mechanical properties of load-carrying capacity will be carried out to investigate. At first, experiments of the short composite column under axial compression are carried out to investigate the mechanical properties of working feature, load-carrying capacity and ductility etc, and the effects of main factors on these properties are discussed. Formulas with restriction index based on the unified theory, and used for predicting the ultimate bearing capacity of the short composite column, are proposed.And then, the new composite column can not to be separated into concrete steel tube and steel, but be to investigated as the unified material. Axial compression composite stiffness and bend composite stiffness are to be analyzed, compared with the conversion stiffness being adopted in the criterion, in order to show the necessity for utilization of the composite stiffness.Finally, the space frame which is supported by the new composite column, is to be analyzed on the basis of the production in the text. The horizontal top displacement and the bottom bend of the space frame will be studied.
