As an important control device in electric power system that plays an important role in the assurance of power supplying quality, excitation systems should be carefully tested both before leave-factory and after site installation.VI is an automatic test technique developed with the progress of electronics, bus and computer technology. This paper is about the development of the virtual tester that can make automatic test on PCC excitation devices based on IPC and DAQ card. The rich functions of Vis in the paper, such as excitation system start-up response test, electrical motor non-load demagnetization test, operation disturbance test and operation performance monitoring, are proved that work well in industrial site application.The approach of remote diagnosis is rather necessary for excitation system manufactures to find the reason of failure promptly and make sure that all needing parts for replacement are ready. A couple of solutions for VI network service are presented in this paper to realize data network access with the integrated node points TCP, UDP and Data Socket of LabVIEW; to realize remote panel access and operation with Remote Panels function of LabVIEW6. 1 ,and to lay a foundation for remote diagnosis of excitation system.
