In cone of depression areas caused by over-exploitation of groundwater resource, the construction and planning of groundwater reservoir using depleted aquifer space is of great significance for sustainable development and utilization of regional water resource. In this paper, it is established with Visual MODFLOW software the numerical model of study area, Jining City, Shandong Province, and regional water balance is also analyzed. Based on this, the characteristic parameters of water level and capacity volume for groundwater reservoir is reasonably decided, spatial distribution of reservoir capacity is analyzed by ArcGIS and GMS, and then combined operation of precipitation and groundwater resource in reservoir area is calculated, and at last uncertainty analyses of groundwater reservoir capacity volume is made by Monte-Carlo Method. It is demonstrated by the water balance analysis of numerical model, that during simulation period, in study area, annual depletion volume of aquifer is 3448X104m3, and infiltration of precipitation takes a chief part in total recharge, while pumping is a main discharge item. From the analyses on combined operation of precipitation and groundwater resource, it can be concluded that even in dry year with 95% frequency, by means of enhancing utility rate of precipitation in flood season, over-exploitation of groundwater resource can be effectively eased, and this precipitation can absolutely act as important recharge water source. The distribution character of groundwater reservoir capacity volume is shown by the calculation and analyses of reservoir capacity and its spatial distribution, and at last, uncertainty analyses reflects the random character of capacity volume. All the above conclusions are of great significance for the water resource management and artificial recharge in the future.
