Entity gravity dam is one of the more adopted dams in current domestic and international dam construction. Because its section dimension is big and concrete expends much,people optimize dam shape to make it safety and economy while designing. However, when gravity dam is working, the upper stream heel area may appear crack. With the increment of dam height, the probability of the heel area crack will may become bigger and bigger. But the heel area crack doesn't mean dam destroy . Dam can work normally as long as the crack is stable. In the dissertation, the shape optimization of gravity dam subject to crack constraint is studied based on this circumstance. This is a problem being cared much by dam engineering designer. The main contents are as follows:Firstly, this paper introduces the development history, structural characteristics, stress analysis methods and anti-slippery stability analysis of gravity dam. The research circumstance of shape optimization of gravity dam and concrete fracture mechanics theory are also summarized. It is pointed that it's necessary to study on shape optimization of gravity dam subject to dam heel crack constraint. Then the mathematic model of structural optimization design is introduced and optimization methods are summarized briefly. The mathematic model of shape optimization design of gravity dam is also established and homologous compute program is derived. Shape optimization design of gravity dam subject to conventional constraints is studied combining with engineering example and some reasonable results are obtained.Secondly, the basic theory and method of linear-elastic fracture mechanics are summarized and the open process of gravity dam heel crack is analyzed. Combining with software ANSYS, the crack stability analysis of the simply supported beam and gravity dam is studied based on fracture mechanics theory. Compute accuracy of stress and displacement is satisfied and some reasonable results are obtained. This also provides a reasonable compute method for stress strength factor of gravity dam heel crack. Then the mathematic model of shape optimization design of gravity dam subject to crack constraints is established. Optimization methods, complex method is introduced and homologous compute program is derived. Shape optimization design of gravity dam subject to crack constraints is detailed researched combining with engineering example. Reasonable and reliable section of dam is obtained and the optimization effect is more ideal. This also has a certainly referential value to design the gravity dam .
