Active magnetic bearing (AMB), which has many advantages of no touch, high accurate, high speed, has been attracting international great attention. Internationally, research on AMB began over 40 years ago. In many countries such as USA, France, Japan, and Switzerland, AMB has been industrialized. Nationally, research on AMB began some 20 years ago, however, AMB has not been industrialized. On the basics of predecessors, author will develope a new digital control system for AMB, improve power amplifier for AMB, explore new control algorithm, make several suggestions on the research of AMB.At first, this paper introduced the economic benefits and theoretical meaning of AMB, its research situation at home and abroad. Then author described its structure and showed the position and role of all its subsystems, displacement transducer was also described in detail.In this paper, a new DCS (Digital-Control-System) for AMB was developed. A single high-performance DSP (Digital-Signal-Processor) TMS320F2812 is adopted as the main controller in the DCS. 5-DOF (degree-of-freedom) analog location signals are converted into digital signals by 12-bit ADC module of TMS320F2812, which is simple and cost-effective. Two 8-channel, 12-bit DAC TLV5630 were adopted in DAC subsystem. This configuration can simultaneously output 10 current given signals, which can reduce model uncertainty of AMB ,besides, which is simple and cost-effective. The paper explores application of ADC module, SPI module of TMS320F2812, which offer a beneficial reference to the researchers and students using ADC module, SPI module of TMS320F2812.According to the characteristics of the AMB, power amplifier control circuit and power circuit have been studied for increasing power amplifier current response rate and efficiency. A switching power amplifier based on sample-hold strategy is developed for the AMB. Quick current response rate and high efficiency have been demonstrated by the experimental operation.When simulation research for 5-DOF AMB carried out, predecessors usually choose representative axial DOF. In this paper, all 5-DOF were carried out.Finally, author summarize the major research results and the innovation points of this paper, reconsider national research methods on AMB, propose some research methods improving national research for AMB.
