Recently, much attention has been paid to using human materials to control the structure vibration in civil engineering. In this paper, the whole process of how to control the vibration of steel cable by magneto-rheological(MR) fluid damper was brought out,and the MR damper's mechanics model and the steel cable vibration control algorithm were mainly introduced, and the research on the method of realizing the vibration control of the steel cable by PID control algorithm was done, and the feasibility of the steel cable vibration control by this control algorithm was proved in emulation research.By all kinds of references, the knowledge with relation to the control engineering and the material science were introduced. Structure dynamics, the convention control theory, the modern control theory, smart material were all used in this paper, and the problem of steel cable vibration control through the union of the PID control algorithm and the MR fluid damper were told in details. And finally, the emulation research result was contrasted and analyzed with other similar model experiment that had been done by other researchers with other method, and thus showed the superiority of the PID control algorithm in steel cable vibration control. This paper mainly dealt with the theory and the realization of the steel cable vibration control. While proceeding the article with the help of the reference of other researchers, the author pointed out some idea of his own. For the main idea of the paper, the MR damper's mechanics model was introduced directly by using other researchers' theory abroad and at home, while the theory and the realization as well as the improvement method of PID control algorithm were introduced in details. To tell the whole process of the realization the steel cable vibration control by PID control algorithm more clearly, the emulation research was introduced in details.The research work and result of this paper includes following three parts:1 Put out the theory diagram of the steel cable vibration control system, and told the method of how to realize the vibration cotrol system of the steel cable according to the requirement of the vibration control of the steel cable.2 Introduced and analyzed the MR damper's mechanics model, the stochastic superiority control algorithm which had been used in steel cable vibration control by researchers abroad and at home.3 A steel cable and a MR fluid damper that had real use value were selected in this paper to do the emulation research with the PID control algorithm that had put out by the author, the result showed that the PID control algorithm had a good control effect.
