In order to speed up the ship, lower its noise and meet the needs of modern warfare, the thrusting model and system based on water jet plasma arc were designed, which referred to the spatial plasma propulsion and the water magnetic fluid thrust. The distribution of electric field between the electrodes was also calculated on the basis of finite element method. The experimental results acquired by this system consisted with the computational solution very well. The thrust model made of propulsion system,water supply and control system was designed on the basis of analysis on the mechanism of water plasma and thrust effect. Coaxial ring-stick electrode system was adopted in the thrust unit and control system by which thrust velocity and water supply could be dominated was advanced. The control system was made up of AC phase voltage regulating and frequency control circuit. Velocity-measuring system comprised of photoelectric sensor,relay and intelligent double digital display instrument typed HB72 and thrust-measuring system was also designed and adopted in this experiment. The relationships between thrust speed of water jet plasma arc and electrode configuration,water intake and applied voltage could be acquired by these measure systems. Theoretically based on the Lapalace equation of electrostatic field, solve areas under different electrode dimension, distance and cathode radius were subdivided and synthesized by the use of finite element method. The numerical solution of electric field distribution under specified boundary condition was calculated on the platform of ANSYS.The erection of experimental models investigated in this experiment established the principle and experimental foundations for the application of water jet plasma arc thrust in water.
