Autotransformers are important power-transferred and voltage-transformed equipments widely served in high, extra-high and ultra-high voltages electrical network with its low cost, low exciting power, and high operational efficiency. Such as, until the end of 2003, the number of autotransformers has reached 80% of the number of transformers served in East China 500kV network. However, there are rarely models of autotransformer used to electromagnetic transient simulation in most simulation software.A new electromagnetic transient simulation model of three-phase autotransformer is described in this paper, in which the controlled voltage and current sources are engaged and a synthetic companion model is developed by using the modified damping trapezoidal simulation method. This model is apt to set up the node voltage matrix equations for programming and calculating. Having reflected both electric and magnetic coupling between there voltage wings of the autotransformers, the new model has more immediate and precise effects on both fault and non-fault sides of the autotransformer in transient simulations. The simulating calculation examples under all kinds of fault conditions have proved that this transient simulation model is correct.This paper has competed interfaces between the simulation software and BPA or PSS/E electrical network calculation software, which this simulation software can automatically read data that BPA produces power flow result and that PSS/E software produces equivalence parameters of a network, and which the simulation software can simulate transient progress of the equivalent network that PSS/E software has made reduction of a network. So these merits upgrade work-efficiency and degrade work-burden. Further, this paper has given the simulation a function that voltage and current curves that the software calculates all kinds of faults are outputted by a general COMTRADE format. So these prefects the software's function and brings lots of advantage to engineering.
