The Study Of Shearing Strength And Volume Change Of Unsaturated Soils

The study of strength and volume change of unsaturated soils is quite significant . In the paper, formers' works have been summarized. At the same time, formula on strength of unsaturated soils available for practical engineering has been presented by the author.The primary works in this paper are presented as follows:(1) The importance of the study of unsaturated soils is emphasized. The present study situation, the main components and engineering problems of unsaturated soils are simply introduced;(2) The results on strength study of unsaturated soils have been classified and author own research result is presented.(3) Reviewing the history on the study of volume change of unsaturated soils and introducing practice predicting method of swelling and shrinking of unsaturated soils.(4) Introducing the design methods of unsaturated soils problems in practice;(5) Trying to point out disadvantage of the study of unsaturated soils and the direction of the study in the future.
