The technology of four effect countercurrent adopted from America Chailunba is used in soda equipment in Chlorine-alkali Plant, its use is for the vapor of alkali liquids. DP-301 is the compulsory cycle pump of the first effect vapor-bath. During the year from 2000 to 2001, there are lots of accidents taken place in the reduction gear casing, which caused the decrease of the output. Taking account of the actual state, the text is mainly for the failure analysis of the reduction gear casing. Based on the macro fracture surface analysis and fatigue strength calculation, the mechanism of the gear fracture is explored, or in other words, the fracture mode, fracture origin and fracture process are examined. By performing physical-chemical tests, mechanical tests and metallographic examinations, it is found that the chemical composition and microstructure of the gear material are normal and the mechanical properties are not deteriorated. A mechanical model has been established and the fatigue strength in the fracture area is calculated. After all examinations, it is concluded that the fracture of gear is caused by unreasonable design or manufacture, existence of the metallurgical defect sin the material and the unsuitable choice of manufacture procedures. The fracture analysis of the gear greatly helps us to take effective measures to prevent the gear from fracturing. As a result, no fracture accident happened again ever since February 2002, which in some extent ensures the operation the NaOH production line safely, steadily and efficiently.
