With the improvement of living level,people's requirement for the comprehensive performance of vehicle is getting higher and higher. In which, one of the most important contents is to reduce the vibration strength, lower the noise so as to improve the comfortness and pay more attention to this. As a key part of the vehicle, except the engine produces vibration due to its working principle, it also produces vibration from external excitation. It will produce resonance when the mode frequency and excitation frequency of the step come closer, thus cause bigger bend, distortion, which will have big influence to the performance,reliability and noise of the engine and smooth-going of the vehicle. Cylinder block is a skelecton and housing of the engine, many parts and auxiliary system are fixed on it. The block not only carry the load, but also bear big local stress caused by many high strength bolts tightening. Therefore, rigidity and dynamic characteristic study of the block is an important task for updating and improving the quality of the engine.By FEM of the block, we have got the main frequency distribution of the block, and analyze the rigidity of it. By experimentation mode analysis of the block, to distinguish some inherent vibration characteristics, to show its distortion distribution and where the stress concerntrated of the block, so as to test and verify the result of FEM.According to FEM and the result of experimentation mode as well as study of dynamic characteristic of the block, analyze the arrangement and structure of diesel engine comprehensively, evaluate the structure of the block, come up with design program for local improvement.According to modified engine block computer model, redid FEA to test and verify the result showed that after modification. The result showed that after modification,the rigidity of the engine block model had improvement a lot.
